Following a run of good performances you would
have expected a home win as Bookham entertained Bedfont a team that
had not one a game since last November. However Bookham put in their
worst team performance of the season going down by 3 goals to nil.
True there have been heavier defeats but those tended to be when the
squad was seriously depleted due to injuries etc. however despite
several players missing this team should still have been strong
enough to cope with a limited Bedfont side.
What could go wrong seemed to go wrong when in the warm up Keeper
Dean Cupit sustained an injury that impeded his movement and
prevented him kicking from the ground. However this was only a
factor for the third goal and he eventually had to leave the pitch
with left back Kevin ward playing the final 20 minutes between the
sticks.
An edgy start by both teams saw Bookham have the first good
opportunity when James Piercy’s cross was met on the volley by
Jordan Buche only for the visiting keeper to make a fine one handed
stop.
A routine free kick from a central position provided Bedfont with
the lead on 18 minutes as centre forward Miner rose unchallenged to
glance the ball home.
The football from both sides was less than good quality but you
sensed that the home team had the ability to get back into the game
and the next goal was always going to be the decider however half
time came without further improvement.
Bookham were slightly better after the break but were undone by 2
goals in 2 minutes both scored by Pinto. The first headed in from a
corner on the hour followed by a direct free kick on 62 minutes.
However Jordan Buche still had 2 good opportunities to get Bookham
back into the game with 2 one on ones foiled by some good
goalkeeping, and with Cupit being forced to leave the field injured
the game was as good as over. Bookham were then subsequently forced
to play the remainder of the game with 10 men as Richard Gridley had
to retire with a head injury following the introduction of all three
subs.
Bookham probably played their best football from this point on as
they worked hard to protect the stand in keeper but a hard working
and committed Bedfont were not going to be denied.

Bookham scored a first ever win against their
landlord in a spirited encounter at Meadowbank and in the process
confirmed Dorking's mathematical relegation.
With work commitments forcing 2 changes and Mark Jarman missing
through injury the Bookham squad was down to the bare bones with
manager Glynn Mandeville forced to name himself as one of only 2
substitutes. This situation was compounded by the league's decision
to give their reserve team a fixture on the same night.
Jordan Buche replaced the injured Jarman with Kevin Ward and James
Piercy brought into the starting line up and in an opening period
Bookham just shaded the balance of play. They took the lead on 15
minutes with a well worked goal when Stuart Padgett played the ball
behind left back Hill for Buche to beat Roberts in the Dorking goal
with a low shot into the corner of the net.
Dorking came back strongly and Dean Cupit was forced to make 2
excellent saves notably from a screaming shot from Dan Clayton that
he tipped round the post. He was called into action twice more both
chances falling to Tony Jones who probably should have done better.
Bookham though seemed to have weathered the storm as half time
approached and scored a second when James Piercy’s cross cum shot
from near the touchline totally wrong footed Roberts. Bookham had
another long range effort from Billy Ramsey just go wide before the
whistle.
The second half started much the same way as Dorking tried to come
back into the game however just as the game seemed to be passing
them by, when with 20 minutes remaining, keeper Cupit and Paul
Farrell both went for the same high ball leaving Jones with a simple
tap in. This set up a grand stand finish by the home side that could
easily have earned a point however a mixture of good and desperate
defending sealed the points for the tenants.

Premier: Bookham 4 Chertsey 2 |
|
|
A highly committed performance saw Bookham put
their highly paid opponents to the sword on Saturday when all 6
goals were scored in the first 30 minutes.
Bookham were able to re-call Richard Gridley, Chris Woodward, and
Dean Feasey back to the side that missed their last game at
Chessington through work commitments. In addition to these James
Piercy, Kevin Ward, and Danny Buss all returned to the squad to make
up the bench.
After a bright opening period from both teams Bookham went ahead
when a Billy Ramsey cross was bought down and struck home by leading
scorer Chris Woodward after only 7 minutes.
The same combination doubled Bookham's lead 2 minutes later as the
Chertsey defence failed to clear another cross from the left winger.
As in recent games Bookham took their foot off the gas when leading
to allow Chertsey to come back strongly.
The Chertsey line up was lead by the Leagues leading scorer John
Pomroy who was ably supported by former Reading and Brentford player
Paul Brooker and the very impressive Remi Sellers whose trickery
when running with the ball gave the home side no peace all
afternoon. Indeed it was Sellers running at the defence that created
the chance for Brooker to pull a goal back on 13 minutes. Chertsey
were level 4 minutes later following a fine strike from Pomroy.
Back though came Bookham and Richard Gridley fired home from the
edge of the box after the visiting defence had again failed to deal
with a Ramsey corner on 21 minutes.
Chertsey again almost equalized when a shot hit the Bookham bar
however Chris Woodward completed his hat-trick on 30 minutes again
following a corner. Ramsey's kick was again only half cleared to
Paul Farrell whose shot was blocked by the Chertsey keeper only for
Woodward to capitalise with the follow up to record his first
hat-trick for the club.
Brooker retired at half time due to injury to be replaced by former
AFC Wimbledon star and the leagues second highest goals corer Kevin
Cooper to partner Pomroy up front and they fashioned the first
chance of the second half hitting the post from a well struck free
kick. With the Bookham defence playing deeper and deeper as they
struggled to retain any decent possession the goal came under real
pressure but the defence and keeper Dean Cupit denied Chertsey
another breakthrough. However the home team started to pass their
way back into the game and again started to play the better
football.
Billy Ramsey then had an excellent shot acrobatically turned over
the bar after 65 minutes and as Chertsey ran out of ideas they were
caught on the break on several occasions Mark Jarman, Chris
Woodward, and ex Chertsey player Stuart Padgett should have done
better with one on one chances to really post a big score.
Bookham’s next match is against Dorking this Tuesday before hosting
struggling Bedfont in their last home Saturday game of the season.
Kick off at Meadowbank is at 3pm.

A patched up Bookham took the field missing 4
players through work commitments and Creag Wilson through a
hamstring injury. Manager bought in Jamie Abbott from the reserves
and gave a debut to Kelvin Mandeville in midfield.
It was no surprise that Chessington started the stronger and Cupit
had to be at his best early on to keep out a fierce shot from
Webber. However Bookham had a number of shooting chances however
Buche, Jarman, and Ramsey all failed to trouble the keeper.
After half an hour Kent should have given Bookham the lead when he
connected with Ramsey’s free kick only for the goal bound header to
hit the keeper from point blank range.
Bookham were paid to pay minutes later when Abbott at left back was
caught in possession and with the defence wrong footed conceded the
opening goal.
The second half was a totally different story as Bookham created
chance after chance. Despite loosing Kent to an ankle injury the
visitors were totally dominant for most of the second period.
The home keeper was forced to make a number of tremendous saves most
notably from Jarman and Buche and was perfectly placed to stop
headed chances from Oliver, Buche, and Currie.
The equalizer would not come though and Chessington held out for a
somewhat lucky 3 points.

Bookham found themselves 1-0 down after only 45
seconds Torino giving Cove the lead and with Bookham very slow out
of the blocks it was no surprise that Cove doubled their lead as
half time approached through Milletti.
A strong second half performance saw Bookham come back to reduce the
arrears through Chris Woodward on 52 minutes and equalize on 59
minutes through Mark Jarman. At this time Bookham were well on top
and there only looked one winner but Bookham failed to press home
there territorial advantage and conceded a soft goal on 74 minutes
through Barratt. Girling completed the scoring in the 89th
minute following the award of a very harsh penalty

Premier: Bookham 3 Chessington 2 |
|
|
Bookham continued their much improved run of
form to record a win over another of the league's highly fancied
sides despite having to come back from 2 goals down. This result
means that Bookham have only lost one of their last 9 games as they
look to have banished the last remaining threat of relegation and
surpassing their points total of last year with 8 games remaining.
Manager Glyn Mandeville build up to the game was seriously
threatened by the unavailability of Kevin Ward, Stuart Padgett and
the fit again Jordan Buche due to Bank Holiday family commitments
whilst centre half Dave Fuller picked up what could be a serious
knee injury in training. All this coupled with the continuing
absence of Creag Wilson (hamstring strain) meant that the defence
had a very threadbare look. He decided to give a full debut to the
recently signed Dean Feasey at left back whilst Danny Oliver dropped
back into the back four to partner centre half Paul Farrell. The
squad was boosted by the return of Mark Jarman from suspension.
Bookham had the better of the opening exchanges however Chessington
took the lead from their first attack after 8 minutes when an
excellent cross from the right was firmly met by Smith whilst
goalkeeper and defenders looked at each other. Chessington then
extended their lead on 20 minutes as again the defence were slow in
closing down Richard Webber whose fine strike gave Dean Cupit no
chance.
Bookham throughout the first half won a number of free kicks in
threatening positions and 2 minutes later pulled a goal back. Billy
Ramsey’s ball into the box was headed towards goal by Chris Woodward
however the visiting keeper made a fingertip save only for James
Piercy to score from a tight angle.
Another Ramsey free kick provided the equalizer this time his cross
into the box eluded all including the keeper. Paul Farrell should
have put Bookham ahead shortly afterwards getting a free header from
another Ramsey corner but he put his effort wide as Bookham
dominated the remainder of the half.
The second half was a more even affair but the home team always
carried the greater threat. On 65 minutes Bookham won a throw in
level with the 6 yard box. Sam Currie’s throw was back headed by
Richard Gridley and as the Chessington defence struggled to clear
their lines the ball fell to the excellent Chris Woodward who gave
Bookham the lead with a decisive finish.
Paul Farrell had another headed chance from a corner to seal the
points but again put another header wide however despite the
visitors throwing on an extra attacker in the dying minutes Cupit’s
goal was rarely threatened.

Premier: Bookham 2 Horley 1 |
|
|
Bookham
secured the hard fought win that will almost certainly secure their
Premier Division status next season despite a bizarre sending off 20
minutes from time.
Substitute Andy Taylor was dismissed seconds after coming on as sub
following his first challenge when he was caught late and went down
injured. The referee waved play on then dismissed Taylor for
something he said.
Bookham went into the game having never beaten Horley since their
promotion and were on the back foot for most of the early exchanges.
They were not helped by suspensions to Billy Ramsey and Mark Jarman
with a hamstring injury causing Creag Wilson to miss another game so
they persisted with a 5 man midfield leaving Chris Woodward on his
own up front.
Horley had a couple of early chances to take the lead but failed to
capitalize on some good approach play. However
with Bookham starting to keep possession better the 5 man midfield
started to dominate. Danny Oliver came close to giving Bookham the
lead when he hit the post from a Carnota corner just before Woodward
had a good shot well saved
by the visiting keeper.
As halftime approached Bookham took the lead through Richard Gridley
when his back flicked header appeared to be stopped on the line by a
defender's hand but the
referee’s assistant ruled that the ball had crossed the line
negating the need for a penalty and the obligatory red card.
The second half saw things much the same with Bookham's
midfield dominating forcing the visitors to play a long ball game. However
centre half’s Fuller and Farrell coped well early on and a Carnota
ball into the box saw James Piercy get between the
Horley defenders to calmly lob the keeper to put Bookham 2 –
0 up on 53 minutes.
However a rash challenge by Stuart Padgett that went unpunished
seemed to galvanise Horley who suddenly started creating sustained
pressure on the home rearguard. They should have scored but only
managed to hit the post with the goal gaping on 52 minutes and Dean
Cupitt had to be at his best to tip a lobbed attempt round the post
shortly after. However the referee handed Horley a lifeline when he
awarded a penalty for a push that only he saw on 63 minutes and
Death reduced the arrears.
Manager Glynn Mandeville sent on Andy Taylor up front in an effort
to stem the supply of long balls from the Horley back four but his
contribution was very short lived. The sending off seemed to have
the effect of stiffening Bookham's
resolve and the last 15 minutes were more comfortable than the
preceding 15.
Next Saturday Bookham return to Meadowbank to entertain Chessington
and Hook Utd k.o. 3.00 pm for the first time this season before
moving dressing rooms for the bank holiday clash with landlords
Dorking k.o.11.30 am.

Premier: Bedfont 0 Bookham 3 |

On Bookham’s last visit to a
Bedfont ground, they were sent home with their tails between their legs
on a day where they were completely outplayed by a vibrant Bedfont Green
side.
On Saturday Bookham visited the other Bedfont in the first encounter of
the season between the two sides and the way in which Bookham started
this game brought back memories of that heavy defeat back in January.
Bookham started this game slowly and sloppily as the hosts came out of
the blocks and if not for the profligacy in front of goal by the two
Bedfont strikers could have found themselves two goals down in the
opening ten minutes. In a swirling wind and with the sun in their eyes,
the directness and pace of the Bedfont front two saw them get in behind
the Bookham back four however the Bedfont number 9 with the goal at his
mercy was denied by a fine save by Cupit in the Bookham goal. Another
bit of sloppy play in the Bookham midfield saw Bedfont number 10 Da
Costa also in on the Bookham goal however his tame shot rolled wide when
his team mates were better placed for a pass.
Gradually Bookham played their way into the game and with the midfield
now starting to find the feet of lone striker Chris Woodward created a
couple of chances of their own. A quick one two on the edge of the
Bedfont box saw midfielder Danny Oliver through on goal however Banks
was quickly of his line to block the shot. Bookham then almost took the
lead from a corner when Farrell rose highest to place a firm header on
goal however the defender on the post did well to clear off the line,
the ball fell to Woodward on the penalty spot however he was tackled by
the Bedfont right back just as he was about to shoot on goal. Bedfont
continued to look dangerous up front with Da Costa fashioning a couple
of half chances for himself however neither managed to trouble Dean
Cupit in the Bookham goal with the sides going in at half time all
square.
The second half saw a different Bookham side and in the first minute Sam
Currie, playing this game in an unfamiliar right midfield role, broke
clear and his half volley was well tipped onto the Bedfont crossbar by
Banks. Bookham were looking a lot sharper than they had in the first
half and with their passing much improved they opened the scoring when a
ball rolled into the box for Woodward was cleverly laid back into the
path of the onrushing Stuart Padgett to drill the ball into the bottom
right hand corner of the Bedfont net. Bookham were now beginning to
control the game and a ball over the top saw Currie in one on one with
Banks in the Bedfont goal however he dithered and the Bedfont keeper
managed to cleverly snatch the ball at the Bookham players feet.
Bedfont still looked dangerous on the break with pace on the flanks and
a flowing counter attack saw the Bedfont right midfielder seemingly in
on goal however he was denied a shooting opportunity by a superb
recovering tackle by Bookham left back Creag Wilson. The same player
again denied Bedfont when a ball into the Bookham box was met by a
Bedfont midfielder however Wilson’s superb block meant the Bookham goal
remained intact.
This short spell of Bedfont pressure was eased when Bookham quickly
worked the ball up to Woodward and with the Bedfont defenders hesitating
Woodward calmly slammed the ball into the corner of the net. Danny Kent
had been brought on at halftime for the injured Billy Ramsey and with
Bookham reverting to a 4-4-2 formation his strength began to cause the
Bedfont defence all kinds of problems. A neat move down the Bedfont
right saw Kent one on one with the last defender and as he skipped
around him was crudely brought down right on the edge of the box. Danny
Buss, recalled into the right back role strode up and smashed the ball
into the roof of the net via a slight deflection off the Bedfont wall.
Bookham continued to create chances and an excellent cross by Kent into
the box was met by the head of Padgett however his tame header was
straight at Banks in the Bedfont goal. Bedfont to their credit did
continue to try and push forward and find that consolation goal however
strong defending meant that their chances were limited and Bookham saw
out the game to claim a valuable three points in their bid to stay out
of the bottom three.
Bookham will know that they can’t afford to start so slowly however a
strong second half really highlighted what this team is capable of when
on their game. Next week is a tough game away to high flying Camberley,
with influential skipper Fuller missing through other commitments and
Wilson and Kent out through injury the now regular occurrence of never
being able to field the same side two games in the row is evident again.
Bookham do however have the opportunity to welcome back Mark Jarman and
Richard Gridley from suspension as well as Kevin Ward and James Piercey
from work commitments to bolster the squad. |

Premier: Bookham 1 Raynes Park Vale 1 |
|
|
Bookham continued there frustrating habit of
failing to beat struggling sides with a disappointing draw to a
modest Raynes Park Vale despite almost totally outplaying their
opponents in the first 45 minutes.
After a somewhat slow start Bookham took the lead after 15 minutes
when Paul Farrell rose unchallenged to head home a Billy Ramsey free
kick.
They should have extended their lead as both Danny Oliver and Dave
Fuller both missed chances from corners as the visitors seemed
unable to defend dead ball kicks. Chances from open play though were
limited as Mark Jarman playing as a lone striker had to contend with
the combined efforts of the Raynes Park back four.
As half time approached Raynes Park won a corner from the right but
despite the ball being headed clear a follow up shot from all of 25
yards ended up in the back of the net.
The second half was more equal in terms of possession however
Farrell had another excellent chance to put Bookham back in front
again from a corner and Jarman had another headed goal ruled out for
offside.
However Keeper Dean Cupitt was called on to make 2 good stops to
prevent Bookham going behind.

Premier: Bookham 1 North Greenford Utd 1 |
|
|
Bookham had to come from behind to take a share
of the points against one of the teams tipped at the start of the
season to be challenging for honours but it was no more than they
deserved as they had by far the better chances in the game.
With top scorer Chris Woodward absent through work commitments and
striker Jordan Buche still injured Mark Jarman was asked to play
alone up front as the home team elected for a 5 man midfield giving
a starting debut to new signing Stuart Padgett who recently joined
the club from Chertsey Town. Creag Wilson also returned to the
starting line up following a bout of tonsillitis replacing the
unavailable Kevin Ward at left back.
The formation relied heavily on being able to retain possession
giving the midfield time to support the lone striker and despite the
pitch becoming bumpy following Tuesday’s game Bookham were able to
impose themselves and take the game to the visitors.
The sparse crowd which was disappointing for such an attractive
fixture were treated to some fine play by the home team and some
less than inspiring goalkeeping from the visiting keeper who looked
at a loss whenever he was asked to come off his line. He was though
an accomplished shot stopper as he proved 10 minutes in as he tipped
a fierce drive from Jarman over the bar.
A further chance this time from a corner arrived 10 minutes later
however Billy Ramsey’s kick saw a header from Dave Fuller just clear
the bar.
The visitors meanwhile were struggling to mount any sort of real
threat giving both Wilson and Sam Currie plenty of opportunity to
support the attacks.
Bookham's best chance in the first half though fell to Mark Jarman
as he was played in behind the visitors defence but his effort to
lift the ball over the advancing keeper went agonizingly wide of the
goal.
A corner to North Greenford as half time approached led to the
opening goal. The initial header hit the bar and was only half
cleared and the ball back in ended up in the back of the net
following a goalmouth scramble with McCormack supplying the finish.
The second half saw North Greenford come more into the game as the
home teams passing lost some of its accuracy. Dean Cupitt in the
Bookham goal though still had less to do than his opposite number a
good save at his near post after an hour being the only notable save
he had to make.
With less than 15 minutes left Danny Kent replaced Padgett giving a
second player up front. The change had a positive effect as James
Piercy was played in wide on the right his run on goal resulted in a
fine strike that was tipped pound the post.
Bookham deservedly equalized after 83 minutes following a corner,
Ramsey’s kick being only half cleared to Carnota on the edge of the
box. His ball back in to the far post was deftly glanced in by Paul
Farrell.
The result was enough to pull Bookham up a place and out of the
bottom three.

Bookham continued to progress in terms of points
accumulation with a hard fought draw at Merland Rise.
With illness robbing the visitors of defenders Paul
Farrell and Creag Wilson before the match another
reshuffle was required with Danny Oliver dropping to
centre half and Billy Ramsey returning in midfield.
In addition to this Bookham welcomed goalkeeper Dean
Cupitt who has joined the club from Merstham and he made
his debut one to remember with a fine performance that
included a penalty save.
Bookham took the lead on 16 minutes with forward Chris
Woodward just beating the home keeper to a through ball
to toe end the ball into the net.
The prolific Robbie Burns equalized on 37 minutes as
Epsom dominated the remainder of the half with Bookham's
central midfield of James Piercy and Danny Carnota
largely ineffective and Billy Ramsey having a very quiet
game.
Bookham improved significantly in the second half and
started to shade possession however they fell behind to
a goal by Ross Shoefield on 50 minutes however the goal
of the game sealed a point on 58 minutes when the
improving Piercy drove the ball into the corner of the
net from 20 yards.
Bookham had several chances to take all three points as
they finished much the stronger however the Epsom keeper
made some excellent saves not least from an Andy Taylor
volley that had goal written all over it.
Bookham will have to play better this Tuesday when they
entertain Cobham at Meadowbank but they should be
strengthened by the acquisition of former Dorking
midfield player Stuart Padgett providing his transfer
from Chertsey Town is completed in time.

Premier: Bookham 3 Egham Town 0 |
|
|
With Bookham playing 3 teams in the next 3
weeks in the lower reaches of the Premier Division and teams at the
bottom showing improved form, taking points from this fixture was
vitally important and with both Billy Ramsey and Kevin Ward
available after missing last weeks trip to Ash the side had a more
settled look. However a suspected hernia problem to keeper Tim
Brewster saw secretary Paul Chapman forced to come out of retirement
and don the keepers gloves.
Egham started the game by far the brighter but despite having the
lion's share of possession could not find a way of testing the
nervous Chapman as Bookham showed the defensive resilience that has
not always been in evidence this season. The central defensive
pairing of Dave Fuller and Paul Farrell working fantastically hard
to blunt the efforts of Egham’s prolific Jamie Thornby (18 goals so
far this season) and Charlie Muldowney.
Led by Danny Oliver Bookham began to win the midfield battle, exert
some pressure on the Egham defence and with Mark Jarman and Chris
Woodward working their socks off up front the Egham back 4 looked
less than comfortable.
After 15 minutes a free kick from a wide position saw Ramsey whip
the ball in, the ball was partially cleared to Jarman who headed
back across the goal for Woodward to beat Egham keeper Gooding to
give the home side the lead.
A few minutes later another corner from Ramsey was only half
cleared, then was played back to Paul Farrell in front of goal but
he could not get the touch to beat Gooding. Minutes later Chris
Woodward was sent clear and in a 1 on 1 with Gooding hit the
keeper's legs and the chance was lost.
After 34 minutes Bookham got the deserved second goal as Danny
Oliver won the ball in midfield, his forward pass saw Jarman react
quickly to control the ball and lift it over the advancing Gooding.
With half time approaching Egham enjoyed some promising moments but
some excellent defending protected Chapman’s goal.
The second half saw Egham again start well and after 55 minutes a
free kick was only half cleared and the ball back in was put into
the net by Mark Postins only for the assistant referee to rule it
out for offside. A decision that angered the away players and
supporters alike. With the visitors at last finding some consistent
pressure a 2 goal lead never looked enough, however a break from
defence saw the ball played out wide to the right for Jarman to run
on to and his wonderful cross was met on the volley by Billy Ramsey
to give Bookham a 3-0 lead. Egham never gave up though and when
Scotchford’s free kick found Thornby at the far post his header
found the net. The visitors exasperation reached fever pitch however
as the assistant again ruled out the goal for offside. To be fair to
the assistant, supporters in line said that this decision was more
clear cut but the Egham faithful were having none of it.
It took 75 minutes for Egham to fully test the stand in keeper when
Chapman was forced to a full length save from Thornby but he rolled
back the years minutes later turning a fierce Postins drive around
the post.
Manager Glynn Mandeville was understandably delighted with his
team's gritty performance particularly the clean sheet but with an
away game at Epsom next Saturday followed by the visit on Tuesday 19th
February of struggling Cobham he will be looking to bring in another
keeper if Tim Brewster’s hernia condition is confirmed.

Premier: Ash Utd 4 Bookham 2 |
|
|
A very entertaining game on a heavy pitch saw
Ash overcome a determined effort by Bookham who rode their luck in
the first half to put in a second half performance that belied their
league position. With what has become the normal weekly team changes
forced on the team management Bookham lost the services of Billy
Ramsey (illness), Kevin Ward (injury), and the unavailable Richard
Gridley. Creag Wilson was drafted in to cover the left back position
and James Piercy returned from his long term ankle injury, both
having fine games.
The early exchanges gave no indication of the entertainment to come
as both sides struggled to find any fluency with misplaced passes
being sprayed around with abandon. However Ash settled the better
and took the lead on 12 minutes when their skipper Chris Rose rose
unchallenged to finish an excellent cross.
With Bookham struggling to retain possession Evans forced Tim
Brewster into a fine save and as half time approached the same
player lifted the ball over the bar with the goal gaping.
Bookham's own attacks were steadily gaining potency and home keeper
Fitzpatrick had to save shots from Jarman, Wilson, and Woodward as
the midfield started to build a platform and set up some good
quality possession.
With Bookham somewhat fortunate to reach half time only one goal
down they equalized 2 minutes into the second half. Carnota’s corner
being met at the far post by Paul Farrell. His downward header was
pounced on by the alert Mark Jarman to hook the ball into the net.
With the game opening up it became end to end stuff Ash striker
Smith found himself clear on goal only to be caught by the onrushing
Brewster outside the box. With everybody expecting the obligatory
red card the referee surprised everybody by producing a yellow
ruling that the recovering Creag Wilson had got goal side, a
decision greeted with dismay by the home team especially as the
resulting free kick was spurned.
On 63 minutes Smith again found himself clear this time he chipped
the ball over Brewster to give Ash a 2-1 lead.
Bookham came back strongly and their best move of the match produced
a second equalizer, substitute Andy Taylor fed Mark Jarman down the
left and his delightful cross was met on the volley by James Piercy
who lifted the ball over Fitzpatrick.
It seemed anyone game now an it took a fantastic save by the Ash
stopper to deny Chris Woodward from point blank however Ash came
straight back to force a corner on 73 minutes. For once Bookham
failed to clear their lines allowing the ball to be played into
Hanning to give Ash the lead for the third time.
The tiring Piercy was forced to retire with 10 minutes remaining
allowing Glyn Mandeville to give a debut to 16 year old Hugo Sikuade
the youngster showed plenty of confidence on the ball and looks very
promising.
Ash now were in the ascendancy and Smith sealed Ash's win with a
fine strike on 82 minutes.

Premier: Bookham 1 Reading Town 0 |
|
|
Bookham won this vital encounter against an
improving Reading Town side after a run of poor results that had
seen then slip back into the relegation dogfight but Paul Farrell's
headed winner on the hour was a poor return from the many chances
created.
With both Reading and Sandhurst going above Bookham in the last
seven days points from this game were extremely valuable as again
manager Glynn Mandeville was forced into changes to the starting
line up with Richard Gridley (work) and Jordan Buche (injured)
unavailable, however he was able to recall both Danny Oliver and
Billy Ramsey who both missed Saturdays defeat against Guildford.
Bookham missed several guilt edged chances in a first half they
largely dominated with both Chris Woodward and Mark Jarman missing
one on ones and a Dave Fuller header from a corner somehow rolled
wide. Reading though had one good chance hitting the post from a
wide angle.
The second half started again with the home team seemingly well on
top and the breakthrough came on the hour mark when Billy Ramsey’s
well struck corner saw Farrell head powerfully home. The same player
had the ball in the net for a second only to be denied by the
linesman's flag, a decision that mystified everyone as the ball had
come back from the Reading keepers save from a Ramsey free kick.
This was followed by Readings best spell of the match as they threw
everything forward to force the equalizer. Keeper Tim Brewster was
beaten on his near post only for the ball to come back off of the
woodwork.
Bookham though should have made the game safe playing now on the
break several great opportunities were wasted as quality was at a
premium from both sides as they struggled with the surface and the
importance of the result.
However no killer second goal emerged but the defence held out for a
rare clean sheet.

Premier: Bookham 1 Guildford City 2 |

|
Bookham went into this fixture against high
flying City determined to put last weeks awful display behind them
but were eventually undone by a Scott Cannie winner 30 seconds into
injury time.
An injury to Danny Oliver and missing the unavailable Billy Ramsey
saw Glynn Mandeville forced to reorganize his intended starting line
up bringing in Jamie Abbott to play left side of midfield and
restoring Kevin Ward at left back. Mark Jarman partnered Chris
Woodward up front in an effort to give Danny Kent who was carrying a
knock some respite and he took a place on the bench.
The confident visitors started strongly gaining good possession in
the early stages as Bookham struggled to keep the ball however as
the game progressed the home side where more than matching City in
midfield and Jarman and Woodward were starting to worry the City
back 3. The City goal had had a couple of scares before a good build
up saw Richard Gridley put Bookham ahead on 34 minutes.
Bookham were in the ascendancy winning several corners most being
wasted but 5 minutes later Gridley should have scored the second
from a Carnota near post corner but totally missing the ball with
the goal gaping.
This let off looked to have cost Bookham dear as City countered but
Cannie’s point blank header from an Azim cross was brilliantly saved
by Tim Brewster.
The second half started again with Bookham on the front foot. Jordan
Buche was finding plenty of space down the right flank as City
looked to press for the equalizer. Mark Jarman had an excellent
chance when put through on goal but Gindre in the city goal pulled
off a fantastic save to deny the striker. Another attack saw Buche
through only to be stopped by a challenge that looked a cast iron
penalty as both players went to ground but the referee not only
ruled the challenge fair but mystified everyone by awarding a goal
kick.
Guildford from this point on started to enjoy greater possession
however their forward play was hampered by some indifferent
finishing and it took a special goal to draw them level. 74 minutes
saw Reece White pick the ball up some 25 yards from goal and he
unleashed a rasping drive that gave Brewster no chance.
With Guildford in the ascendancy Bookham still looked dangerous on
the break after forcing a corner Farrell’s downward header crept
wide with nobody able to get the final touch.
Bookham were hanging on by now and as the game went into injury time
a momentary lapse of concentration saw Cannie react fastest to a
looping ball into the box to rob the home side of a deserved point.

Premier: Chertsey 3 Bookham 1 |
|
|
Bookham suffered their second 3-1 away
defeat in a row despite putting in a spirited performance at Alwyns
Lane.
With no fewer than seven first team players unavailable, 3 of whom
picked up injuries during training this week, Bookham were forced to
recall Richard Pattinson to the starting line up despite him not
having played for 2 months due to work commitments. Danny Kent also
on the comeback trail was forced to play 90 minutes for the first
time this season and put in a very promising performance capped by a
superb equalizer.
Chertsey started the game by far the sharper and striker Matt Graves
should have scored but his powerful strike came back off the
crossbar after only 8 minutes. Bookham though rallied and whilst
Chertsey always looked dangerous going forward the visitors started
to gain a foothold in the midfield battle and were able to put the
Chertsey defence under some pressure. The pure physical presence of
Danny Kent and Richard Pattinson and their ability to hold the ball
up enabled the midfield to support several promising moves.
It was following one such move that Chertsey were able to attack at
pace down their right flank that saw the excellent Graves unleash an
unstoppable shot that grazed the post on its way in after 25
minutes.
Bookham's response was superb with good passing and movement taking
the game to the hosts. After 32 minutes Danny Carnota got on the end
of a good build up to smash a shot against the Chertsey crossbar.
The relief was short lived however as Woodward's run down the left
saw him slip the ball inside to Kent who curled an excellent finish
into the top corner.
The second half started badly for Bookham as they conceded an own
goal 5 minutes in. Chertsey’s McPhail picked up the ball just
outside the left edge of the Bookham penalty box and with Paul
Farrell in close attendance the Chertsey player's attempted cross
came of Farrell’s chest and looped over the stranded Brewster.
The prolific John Pomroy made the game safe for the home side after
75 minutes from a bizarre free kick. Bookham’s Jordan Buche was
caught by a raised boot as he attempted to clear on the edge of the
Bookham box. As the culprit went past he petulantly slapped the
offenders boot. The referee ignored the original foul and promptly
booked Buche and awarded a free kick to the home side. Pomroy's shot
around the wall lacked any real power but it somehow managed to
evade Brewster who looked to have it well covered.
With both Kent and Pattinson clearly tiring the visitors attacks
grew less effective and apart from a few corners they failed to
trouble the home defence further.
With results elsewhere not going Bookham's way another defeat will
see them drawn back into the relegation dogfight as this Saturday 12th
January will see the visit of Raynes Park Vale who are just 3 point
behind them. Kick off is 3pm at Meadowbank. The Manager will be
hoping to call on the services of Dave Fuller, Mark Jarman, and
Richard Gridley who are all expected to return from injury, Andy
Taylor from suspension, and Billy Ramsey who missed the game through
work commitments.

BOOKHAM travelled to
Wembley well aware that their hosts were eager to avenge a 5-0 thrashing
earlier in the season. Sure enough the visitors were forced to endure
some early pressure as Wembley's slick passing game tested the Bookham
rearguard. However, with the return of Paul Farrell to first team action
the defence stood firm.
As the early storm blew out the visitors began to cause some problems of
their own as the evergreen 40-year-old Andy Taylor and Chris Woodward up
front created chances. Most of Bookham's better moments came through
their wide men particularly Jordan Buche who was a constant menace to
the home defence.
Despite Wembley having the better of the possession Bookham carved out a
couple of good chances. Richard Gridley should have done better when he
put a good headed chance wide.
On the half-hour mark Bookham went behind. A misplaced pass saw the ball
played into the prolific Paul Shelton whose finish gave Brewster no
chance.
A half-time reminder on how a midfield quartet should defend against a
five-man midfield saw Bookham better organised from the start of the
second period.
The equaliser duly arrived from a free-kick that was met at the far post
by Farrell. His header fizzed across
goal
and was turned into the net by Dave Fuller.
Wembley continued to look dangerous as they attacked with plenty of pace
and power, but the better chances were falling to the visitors. With
Mark Jarman replacing Andy Taylor after an hour the substitute had a
glorious chance to give Bookham the lead when sent clear but his shot on
he stretch was straight at the Wembley keeper.
Wembley were going all out for the win which left increasing space for
Bookham's counter attacks with both Buche and Ramsey getting in some
good positions. The winner though came from a corner after 77 minutes,
when Ramsey's corner was met by the unmarked Buche to head home.
Wembley's frantic attempts to force an equaliser saw several
opportunities spurned by the home side and Jarman should have made the
game safe when set up by Buche's run and cross but he managed to hit the
flying keeper from point blank range.
The win gave Bookham their first away victory of the season and their
first league double since promotion last season. It also stretches their
run of form to four games unbeaten, but that will be sternly tested as
they host runaway leaders Merstham at Meadowbank on Saturday, kickoff
3pm.

Premier: Sandhurst 2 Bookham 2 |
|
|
Bookham showed great spirit in the second
half having to come back from 2 goals down.
This game was seen as a 'must
win' for both sides but
particularly Sandhurst as they occupy a relegation position.
However, a point apiece was reward for each
team as they both had periods of domination.
The Bookham team saw the return from injury of James Piercy but
unfortunately the influential Mark Jarman’s troublesome groin injury
prevented his inclusion. Centre half Paul Farrell was left on the
bench following his return from a 2 week break.
Both teams started well in a game of good pace but the visitors
should have opened the scoring after only 5 minutes when Jordan
Buche made time for himself inside the box but shot straight at Ewan
in the home goal. Play immediately switched to the other end and a
dangerous cross from the right was volleyed onto the bar by
Sergeant.
The chance spurred on Sandhurst and they took the lead on 12 minutes
following good play down their right flank and a great cross caused
Dave Fuller to slice the ball into his own net.
The second goal followed 3 minutes later. Another pinpoint cross
from the left saw an excellent finish by Sergeant. With Sandhurst
continuing to dominate, pressure on the Bookham defence was immense
as the pacey Sandhurst midfield showed great support for their front
two. However as the half wore on Bookham came back more into the
game and Chris Woodard should have pulled a goal back after 40
minutes but he headed Billy Ramsey’s cross wide.
This was definitely a game of 2 halves as Bookham were quick out of
the blocks following the break. After only three minutes Chris
Woodward had reduced the deficit. A good build up saw a Jordan Buche
lay off allowing Woodward to beat Ewan from the edge of the box with
a low shot into the corner.
Another chance followed soon after following a corner the ball was
only half cleared for Buche’s shot to be denied by the outstretched
leg of a defender on the line.
Sandhurst were still dangerous on the break and again good work down
their left saw Smith waste a golden opportunity to regain the 2 goal
advantage when he somehow side footed wide with the goal at his
mercy. This was the home team's last chance of note though as
Bookham largely dominated the remainder of the game. However it took
until the 79th minute for the equalizer to arrive as the
increasingly influential Ramsey provided the pass for Woodward to
finish.
The quality of both sides passing had been excellent considering the
rain and windy conditions with the visitors having several good
shooting chances to wrap up the points. However some wayward
shooting and the linesman's flag frustrated the overeager visitors.

Premier: Bookham 3 Banstead 1 |
|
|
Bookham put last week's
disappointments behind them by securing a hard fought win over
visitors Banstead.
Bookham were able to recall Kevin Ward, Danny Carnota, and Mark
Jarman who were all unavailable for last week's
game but full back Sam Currie picked up a knock in midweek ruling
him out . This meant
that Mark Jarman was asked
to play at right back. However the home side went into the game in
good heart knowing that despite Banstead’s obvious threat going
forward they have conceded plenty of goals this year.
Starting by far the hungrier Bookham started well winning the
midfield battle where Richard Gridley’s strength was put to good
use. With recent signing Billy Ramsey giving good balance on the
left and the speedy Jordan Buche raiding down the opposite flank
they were able to pressurize the visitors defence into a number of
errors. In fact Ramsey had a hand in all three goals as he is fast
becoming a valuable member of the Bookham squad.
Bookham took a deserved lead after 12 minutes following the award of
a foul wide on Bookham’s right. Ramsey’s excellent delivery was met
at the near post by Dave Fuller whose glancing header gave Dave Tidy
in the Banstead goal no chance. Almost immediately they should have
gone 2 up when centre forward Andy Taylor belying his 39 years
turned and volleyed from 8 yards straight into Tidy’s gloves.
With the very next attack Banstead levelled when
a free kick from a wide position found its way to the back of the
box. The otherwise excellent Mark Jarman had the chance to clear but
was robbed by Kevin Terry who beat Tim Brewster from the edge of the
box.
However in a repeat of Bookham's
first goal they again took the lead on 21 minutes but this time it
was Taylor's header that met
Ramsey’s free kick. Bookham should then have closed out the match
with Buche having a good effort well saved by Tidy. The impressive
stopper then foiled Chris Woodward who should have done better with
his one on one chance and then pulled off the save of the match
touching Danny Carnota’s strike from outside the box onto the bar as
halftime approached.
The second half saw the visitors come more into the game and you
wondered whether the chances squandered in the first half would come
back to haunt Bookham as Brewster's
goal came under more pressure. However
some good saves and superb defending by the home defence managed to
keep the lead intact. Bookham again had a guilt edged chance to
increase their lead after 65 minutes as Buche raced clear. His run
into the box was stopped by Tidy who was injured in the challenge
leaving both Woodward then Ramsey to have goal-bound shots
heroically stopped by covering defenders.
Andy Taylor though effectively wrapped up the points for Bookham
after 72 minutes following the best move of the match. Ramsey,
Woodward and Taylor all linked in a move from one end of the pitch
to the other giving Buche a great chance however again Tidy stopped
the initial shot but was unable to prevent Taylor from slamming
home the rebound.
The win moved Bookham 1 place up the league to 18th and
with December seeing Bookham due to play 3 of the 4 teams below them
in the league the heady heights of mid table are in their sights,
and with James Piercy, Paul Farrell, Jim Green, and Sam Currie all
expected to be available for next week's
trip to Sandhurst manager Glynn Mandeville will have to make
selection decisions for the first time in a few weeks.
Team; Tim Brewster, Mark Jarman, Dave Fuller, Danny Oliver, Kevin
Ward, Jordan Buche, Danny Carnota, Richard Gridley, Billy Ramsey,

Premier: Horley 5 Bookham 1 |
|
|
Bookham travelled to Horley with another
depleted team drafting in Dave Tomlinson for his 1st
start for 2 years and an unfit Richard Pattinson as they tried to
reshuffle the pack to provide meaningful opposition. Unfortunately
these plans were further hit when Mark
Jarman aggravated a groin injury in the warm up meaning that only
the coaching staff were available as substitutes.
They set their stall out to frustrate Horley as best they could and
despite the home team having the lions share of possession succeeded
in protecting Brewster's goal.
Bookham also had their moments going forward and won a number
of free kicks and corners that always looked dangerous. However
Horley were increasingly able to find room on the flanks but
struggled to create anything clear cut.
Against the run of play Bookham took the lead on the 17th
minute. Debutant Billy Ramsey got on the end of Pattinson’s astute
back heel to calmly beat the home keeper.
The pressure on the Bookham defence was gradually building as
they were forced to defend deeper and deeper. They held out until
the 2nd minute of
injury time when a cross from the left eluded everybody apart from
Eldred on the back post who volleyed home.
With Bookham looking less of a threat and having the inability to
put any pressure on the ball the second half started like a training
game for Horley as they passed the ball at will and once Nathan Jupp
had put Horley in front on the hour mark with a fine finish it
seemed only a matter of how many. Jupp scored again 6 minutes later
following a mistake by Danny Oliver, Eldred got his second on 75
minutes and another miscalculation allowed Jupp his hat-trick soon
after although the strikers control and finish was first class.
Bookham, with the game well and truly buried, tried to rally and
only an excellent save denied Pattinson's bullet header.

Premier: Bookham 2 Camberley Town 4 |
|
|
Bookham will look back at
this game, knowing that a mad 10 minute spell either side of half time
cost them the three points against a high flying Camberley Town side
currently sitting in 2nd place in the league.
The preparation for Bookham wasn’t ideal with centre back and skipper
David Fuller along with Ben Lonely both ruled out through injury during
the warm up. This, added to Jim Green’s absence on maternity leave,
caused a major re-shuffle with Kevin Ward returning at left back and
Danny Oliver being moved back to centre half. Andy Taylor and Richard
Gridley were also drafted in to cover the centre midfield positions.
Bookham started the game tentatively and there was little to choose
between the two sides. Bookham gradually played their way into the game,
with the pace of Woodward and Buche up front causing the Camberley
defence some problems. A ball into the box was only half cleared by the
Camberley back four allowing Jordan Buche to curl the ball from twenty
yards into the top left hand corner of the net. The goal unsettled
Camberley and Bookham began to find gaps at will in the Camberley
rearguard. Another ball over the top saw Buche race away only to power
his drive straight at the advancing Camberley town keeper. Right winger
Mark Jarman was giving the Camberley left side a problem and with a
better final ball Bookham had a further two chances to add to their
tally. Camberley had a very good penalty appeal turned down as Paul
Farrell looked to have impeded Joe Paris. In the 40th minute
Bookham added a second goal which their pressure had merited. An
excellent cross field ball from right back Sam Currie picked out Buche
at the back post and whilst his header was saved he was alert enough to
get to the rebound first and hammer the ball past the covering Camberley
defender on the line.
However following this Bookham completely lost concentration, on 43
minutes a simple ball dinked over the top saw the Bookham back four try
to play offside and Mitch While raced clear only to blast high and wide
from ten yards out. Bookham failed to heed this warning and completely
went to sleep at a throw in allowing the Camberley left winger to dink a
ball into the box for Paris to run in unopposed and head home. The
referee inexplicably played 52 minutes in a first half with little
injuries or delays and it was to prove Bookham’s downfall. As in the 51st
minute the ball came out to Mitch While in acres of space, his shot was
touched onto the post by Brewster but the rebound was followed up by
Martin Williams who gratefully slotted the ball home for the Camberley
equaliser.
The 2nd half saw Bookham start in the same way they ended the
first, completely asleep. Bookham tried to play a one two on the edge
of their own box but the ball broke loose for Mitch While to race away
and hammer a good drive low down to Brewster’s right to put the
visitors in front. Then a minute later, the same Camberley player was
gifted another chance to add to his tally. A cross into the box saw
Bookham win the initial ball, however another failure to react first saw
the Camberley Number 10 get to his feet after initially challenging the
high ball and smashing the ball, through a crowd of players, under
Brewster into the Bookham goal. Bookham did improve as the half wore on
without really causing the Camberley back four the same problems as in
the first half. One good move did see right back Currie smash the ball
goal wards only for the keeper to save well to his right. Soon after, a
free kick into the box was met by Jarman who glanced his header just
over the Camberley bar.
There was still time, plenty of time with the amount of minutes allowed
for by the referee for While to be given his marching orders for
Camberley right before the final whistle, having being booked in the
first half for elbowing the Camberley striker unnecessarily kicked the
ball away and was sent from the field of play.
Bookham will look back on this match knowing it should have been another
3 points in the bag. A depleted line up that had managed to take a two
goal lead, the management team acknowledged, that Bookham need to learn
how to shut up shop and not gift decent opposition so many opportunities
to get back into the game.

Premier: Bookham 3 Colliers Wood 2 |
|
|
A meagre crowd witnessed a battling
performance as Bookham overcame a youthful Colliers Wood side to
record their first league victory for over a month.
Bookham were strengthened by the return of full back Sam Currie and
midfielder James Piercy, both had been away with work commitments.
Currie slotted straight back to his accustomed right back role, Ben
Loney replacing Kevin Ward at left back, with Piercy taking a place
on the bench.
Colliers Wood’s team contained a number of young players that had
come through their successful youth program and whose recent form
had seen them start the game in a healthy seventh place.
The game started quietly for Bookham as they took time to settle but
they gradually forced their way into the game as Chris Woodward
failed to take advantage of 2 good chances. Colliers Wood though had
the best chance to take the lead when Royal got behind the back line
to see his excellent effort come back off the post. Woodward did
give Bookham the lead on 20 minutes when Danny Carnota’s ball played
from wide on the left was set up for Woodward to beat the visiting
keeper from the edge of the box.
Within 4 minutes Colliers Wood were level, as the static Bookham
back line appealed for a non existent off side, the visiting centre
forward Royal raced clear and calmly lobbed the onrushing Brewster.
The goal shocked Bookham as Colliers Wood pressed on looking for the
lead. With both defences looking vulnerable further goals were
always on the cards and two goals within a minute just before half
time saw each keeper guilty of poor judgment.
On 43 minutes, a hopeful high ball was played towards the Bookham 6
yard box and Brewster committed himself to allow Amara’s headed
flick to bounce over the line. This lead however was even more short
lived as Mark Jarman raced down the line straight from the kick off.
The visiting keeper needlessly raced off his line allowing Jarman to
chip the ball straight into the net.
The second half saw both defences look much tighter but Bookham
generally had the greater threat. With Jarman, Buche, and Woodward
always looking dangerous. The eventual winner though came in the 83rd
minute when the Colliers Wood keeper challenged Jarman to a high
ball from a Carnota free kick. Jarman got the touch leaving Paul
Farrell an easy finish. Chris Woodward should have made the game
safe just after with another header but put his effort agonizingly
wide.

Premier: Cobham 1 Bookham 1 |
|
|
Bookham travelled to Cobham hoping to put a
dismal run of results behind them with a squad buoyed by the return
of Jordan Buche, Kevin Ward and the previously injured Richard
Gridley (fit enough to take his place amongst the substitutes).
However with right back Sam Currie away on holiday a defensive
reshuffle saw Ben Loney asked to play at right back.
As in previous weeks Bookham started well in a very competitive
match, Chris Woodward and Jordan Buche up front giving the Cobham
back line little time on the ball as they forced a number of free
kicks and corners that always looked threatening. The midfield
battle was equally tight as both sets of players looked to assert
their authority.
Bookham were showing by far the greater appetite and had a great
chance after only 10 minutes when a free kick swung in by Kevin Ward
was met at the far post by Dave Fuller who should have done better
as his effort went wide. Two identical chances fell to Chris
Woodward with the same result as Cobham were put under increasing
pressure.
Mark Jarman playing in a wide role was becoming increasingly
influential constantly turning the home defence with his pace and
trickery and the majority of Bookham's best moments emanated from
his linking up with the front two.< |
